Our Project

The Azubiwerk runs a dormitory for young people who have come to Hamburg to start an apprenticeship. Our dorm is home to 156 apprentices aged 16 to 26 years.

Living in small shared flats and the many common areas and activities make our house more than a collection of apartments – it’s a real home with a strong social environment and is also conveniently located in the heart of the city.

Under the premise of “Accompany instead of caring”, the apprentices are supported in their own independence and self-responsibility to take the first steps outside of their parents’ home. The pedagogical team of Azubiwerk offers a variety of activities and consulting services on site. Since we have underage as well as adult residents living in Wandsbek, our pedagogical team is on site around the clock, 365 days a year. We advise, help or just listen to our residents, if needed. The common areas provide space for a variety of ideas: from cooking together to gardening on our roof terrace.

Requirements for volunteers

We are looking for dedicated, young people who enjoy working with other young people. The activities include the support of the apprentices and our pedagogical team. The focus is to design leisure activities (afternoon / evening), as well as craft activities in cooperation with our janitor (morning). One of the core tasks is the work at our continuously occupied reception area: This is the main point of contact for the apprentices, where we help them with words and deeds.

Responsibilities / Tasks

  • Supporting the team in the afternoon / evening in leisure activities (cooking evenings, sports etc.)
  • Supporting the janitor (rather in the morning)
  • Supporting the reception, which includes phone calls

We offer

  • An attractive and diversified BFD / FSJ and the opportunity to decide to either support our janitor in the mornings / lunchtime or to work lunchtime / evening and focus on recreational activities
  • Pocket money
  • Support and advice from our pedagogical staff
  • The possibility to live in the house for free
